Camping season is not too far off. Are you ready to go on your next camping trip? Where do you keep your camping gear for storage and yet have it readily available for your next adventure? To organize for camping takes a lot of planning and preparing before you actually set out on your journey. Here are seven tips to help you prepare for the upcoming camping season. Where to Store your Gear • Clear plastic sterilite storage bins about the size of 58-64 quart size works well • Clear so you know what is in the bin • Cost will vary, but around $8-$15 dollars at your local Wal-Mart or Target • Spend more for the latched ones • Easy to clean with a wipe of a damp cloth • Rugged enough to move from storage to vehicle and camping spot • Easy to pack in and find what you need • Keep one for your kitchen gear • One bin for other camping necessities • Another one can be used to carry food Store in one place when not in use • Store your bins in one area to find with ease • They stack nicely for easy storage • Easy to move from storage to staging area to vehicle • The food bin now becomes your tent or sleeping bag storage area Organize in a staging area • Best to organize for trips in advance • Use a staging area that is easy accessible to your vehicle (garage) • Replace what you need at this time Test your gear a head of time before leaving • Test your stove before going – replace or fix • Set up your tent- one to air out, but also to repair • Check air mattress and sleeping bag Create a menu • Create menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner • Prepare food ahead of time at home in plastic zip lock bags labeled • Snack ideas (for hiking or biking) • Create a shopping list before going to the store Packing the vehicle • Keep food and coolers accessible while traveling • Stack your bins one on top of the other and use bungee cords to secure • Keep food bins and cooler in the vehicle at campsite to avoid animal visitor’s Create a Camping Checklist (use mine if you like -Fun Camp Stoves Checklist) • Create a checklist that includes all your gear • Use the checklist to help organize and replace items • Keep list with your gear These are a few tips and tricks that have worked for me over the years of car camping. Planning is the key and well in advance to having a fun and safe camping trip with your family. In fact, include your entire family in the procedure for planning and preparing your camping outings. That way your kids can take ownership and appreciate all the work that goes into trip planning. Moreover, the bins are now stored in the garage during the camping season for easy access for the spontaneous trips that may arise. That way they are ready to go when you are.
